Hillel Council of New England Supporting & Connecting Jewish Life Across Campuses

Wheaton College Hillel

Wheaton College Hillel provides both Jewish and non-Jewish students with opportunities to explore the richness of Jewish life, celebrations, spirituality and service. The Hillel Advisor, Jacob Freedman and student board members provide a welcoming place for students to enjoy programming, lectures and celebrate Jewish holidays together. Hillel sponsors monthly Shabbat dinners and traditional meals for holidays. Some of our annual events include High Holiday services and meals, a Hanukkah Party, Latke- hamentashen baking, a Purim celebration, a Passover Seder and bagel brunches. Hillel students and staff meet weekly in the Cole Memorial Chapel basement and work in partnership with the Office of Service, Spirituallity and Social Responsibility. Hillel hosts many of its programs at the Jewish Life House, Jacob Freedman and Professor Jonathan Brumberg-Krauss, Advisors.

Hillel and Red Mill Village: a special intergenerational bond.

Wheaton College Hillel has established a wonderful relationship with Jewish residents at Red Mill Village (RMV) which is a 55+ community nearby. Jewish residents of RMV initially made contact by inviting Wheaton Hillel to a performance of "Never Ever Ever." Then, Wheaton Hillel invited their new friends to campus for a "Meet and Greet" coffee. It was so successful and enjoyable that RMV and the eBoard got together to plan ongoing programs. RMV opened their doors to the students in hosting them for Passover for those who wanted to go off campus. The next event was a Birthright themed Shabbat. The students shared their Birthright experiences and RMV will share their Israeli experiences. The Shabbat included an Israeli themed dinner with candle lighting.
